"...and we just slip this over you and button this up and.... there!" Fireflare stepped back, surveying her work with pride. "Dawwwww, Glory Star, you look adorable!"

The pegasus filly, now trapped in a four-layer winter outfit, looked over her clothing. After a moment, she turned back to her madre and stared at her with idle curiosity.

"Well, because it's cold outside. I don't want you freezing out there, but you have to go outside and..." Fireflare paused. "Wow. You... are communicating with me at what, four days old? That's a bit odd, you know. Not bad!" she added quickly, waving a hoof, "just fast! Very fast, ha. I mean I guess I thought I'd get a few more months where... never mind, you develop as fast as you want. I won't stop you."

The pegasus put the smaller pegasus on her already coat coveredbody, flaring her wings and tossing a blanket over them to form a small tent. Glory Star promprly fell asleep on her back; in some ways, at least, she was predictable. With a small giggle, Fireflare headed out the door. "Right, everypony ready? Let's get this show on the road!" She began trotting down the streets of Canterlot with a smile.

Last night had been... quite fun.

Fun was one way to describe the previous night.

An exhausting ordeal of sexual endurance was another, somewhat more accurate description. Fireflare had been quite...energetic, and the pegasus simply didn't tire at the same rate Starry did. Three hours with no breaks and five orgasms later and Star had been reduced to a boneless, whimpering, quivering mass of satiation and helplessness. Naturally, a promise had been extracted from Fireflare to never be that rambunctious again. It had been fun, but slightly one-sided.

Doing her best not to walk funny, Wishing Star followed after her wife with Moonshine, in full cold weather gear, trotting along beneath her. The colt was almost too tall for the walk-under-mommy act, but Star knew that she would miss it as soon as he was actually too big for it, so she enjoyed it while she could.

"Mommy, are we goin' ta Madre's job place now?" asked Moonshine loudly, shouting even though he was literally inches away from Star.

"Yes, Moony. We're going to DAIA now. Are you excited?"

"Yep! We're gonna see Madre fight monsters!"

"Well, maybe, but I hope not. Hey Lucky, you coming or what?"

Relucesco sat behind the house attempting to focus himself. Even in the winter when drowsiness dragged at his bones, he forced himself to wake before the dawn. A task that had become far easier, or far more difficult considering the skies current state. He had decided the yard was a bit to cramped to go through the physical bit of his regimen, so he decided to put it off til later and focus on meditation.

When he heard the mare call he broth a small flame in frustration. Hours spent at it, and he'd come nowhere near to centering himself, or attaining peace, or whatever it was this blasted test in tedium was for. If his master hadn't commanded that he include it in his training, he'd have abandoned the dull practice long ago. Relucesco grabbed his filthy shawl and scaled the apartment beside Miss Star's home before dropping down before the family.

"At your command. I'm quite eager to see these monster hunters."

"That's a common misconception. We don't hunt monsters, we convince them that attacking ponies is not profitable. Fighting is only one of our methods." FIreflare grinned. "Granted, it's a common method, quite useful when the target isn't capable of speaking. And... well, let's just say it took Star's own talents to make me consider retiring. But it's only one method." She gave Lucky a pointed look. "I want to make sure you understand that. If you can get a job done without hurting anybody, monster or pony, you will be helping your public image. Also there's the paperwork... that's part of the job too."

Soon enough, they approacheds a rather regal looking building. The arch over the main entryway looked a little odd to normal eyes, until one realized it was made to resemeble...or possibly made OUT off a pair of manticore tails. There was a phrase inscribed over the arch in a dead tongue; Fireflare gave it a somewhat amused look. As they entered the primary hall, ones eyes would be drawn to the floor, where a tiled pattern produced the image of Cerberus, under each head of wich was a single pony in the traditional armor of their race. To either side, there were long desks at which sat attentive secretaries, who waved brightly back at Fireflare.

"Hey! Is that little unicorn yours?" shouted an earth pony.

"Yep, Dewdancer, and there's also a pegasus I dropped under this blanket." Flare flicked her head toward Lucky. "But this guy is just here for the bits."

"Wow, big fella!" Dewdancer winked at the dragon, gesturing toward the multitude weapons on the wall behind her. "Well if you ever need equipment, ask us! That's what we're here for."

Fireflare turned to the main desk at the back of the room. "Hey. Who's that pony up there?"

"Ugh. Another 'adventurer.'" Dewdancer rolled her eyes. "She came in with the ABSOLUTE worse armor set I've seen and tried to sign up. Hasn't even provided any credentials!"

"Huh. Well, we're headed over there anyway. I'll see what I can do." Fireflare continued onwards.

Wishing Star wasn't sure which of the 'little unicorns' that were present this Dewdancer pony was referring to, but judging by the leers she was getting from time to time, it was safe to assume either of them. She hadn't caught this many openly appreciative stares since... well, since before they had left Fillydelphia. Canterlot ponies were usually well-mannered enough to keep their eyeballing discreet, but that wasn't the case among a bunch of roughneck warrior-types. No one actually wolf-whistled, but Star was sure that it had been a near thing.

Ordinarily this would have been the time for Wishing Star to slip beneath one of Fireflare's wings as a deterrent and try to ignore the stares, but with the blanket-tent in the way this became impossible. It was a matter of time until somepony worked up the nerve to come over and make a pass at her.

Star glanced for a moment at the armored pony at the desk before moving on in her visual tour of the building. The mare was quite familiar, but the back of somepony's head isn't terribly conducive to recognition.

"Mommy, where all da monsters?" asked Moonshine, wandering out from under his mother to gawk in awe at the building they were in. There was so much shiny in here, it was almost more than he could comprehend.

"You'd have to be a really stupid monster to show up in here, sweetie. I don't think anything short of a hydra would last more than a few seconds." said Wishing Star, extending a hoof to pull her son back into line and patting him on the head.

"Monsters stupid ta come here? Why Lucky here then?"

"Because he's not a monster, Moony. He's a friend."

Far from the 'worst', Roughs armor was newly shined, with only the most superficial damage was left in place. From the back only her braided white and green tail, her armored flank and the back of her head were visible, though the later was also obscured by a white and green mane. A helmet sat on the counter while the mare protested in as calm a voice as she could manage, "Look, I don't want to 'sign up'. I'm already with an Order, I just want to see your local bounties."

"Excuse me, we aren't bounty hunters. We're contractors. We don't have bounties, DAIA members are hired by local governments to deal with demipowers which would otherwise require military intervention." The secretary gave Rough Cut a bored look. "Trust me, if you aren't willing to handle the paperwork you should run around right now and join the guard."

"Contractor, Adventurer, Bounty Hunter. All the same, just semantics and you know it, same goes for that 'it's not bounties' crap. You're 'contracting' ponies to 'deal with' monsters, that's bounty work. Just show me a what and where and let me be off!" She moved left to right and back again as she argued the lack of difference between the names, finally ending by sticking her nose in a bit closer and giving the pony behind the counter a big forced grin. She really hated dealing with DAIA, the whole system was in her opinion, insane.

Paperwork. It was fortunate his master had the foresight to teach Relucesco how to read and write. But Just because he was capqable of such things didn't make him eager to do so. And while it was gracious for this "Dewdancer" to offer weaponry to him, he already had a blade. One that he doubted they would be able to repair for him. As for restraint. While he was trying his best to develop some manner of discretion, it still wasn't the dragons strong suit. Still, if they were willing to give him bits for fighting beast, it was worth at least trying, right? So he simply occupied himself taking in all the new sights in this odd hall. The smooth tiles, that odd archway, pondering it all and marveling in its unfamiliar charm. That is until something one word wormed it's way into his mind.

"Adventurer." . He wasn't sure if this was the right pony, but it certainly seemed familiar. He looked over to the desk and proclaimed.

"Best give that one what she wants. I hear she's a vicious dragon slayer."

"Oh, you two know each other?" Fireflare asked casually, allowing other characters to speak as her turn was effectively skipped.

"Huh? Dragon slayer?" asked Star, before taking note of where Lucky was directing his words. A second glance and another dose of that nagging sense of familiarity finally gave rise to recognition. It was that pony.

"Oh, her...let's just not even go over there, okay? Please?" said Wishing Star, pleading with anypony listening to avoid Rough Cut, or at least allow her to avoid another encounter with the 'adventurer.' More bravado and bloodlust, this early in the wake-cycle? No thank you, not if she could help it...

Maybe monsters did come here after all.

Yeah that's right, I'm a ... Who the buck. She was nodding along until the part about Dragon Slayer. Her brain caught up, "Buck me, what are you doing here?!" Rough Cut was suddenly half surrounded by a pony and a dragon, while the other side of her was blocked by a desk and an obstinate and now slightly amused DAIA desk jockey. "Are you following me now? Is that it? I thought I said we weren't gonna fight!" She was now pushing back against the counter, facing the 'threat' before her. She didn't know the Pegasus, but if she wanted to fight too, then so be it. What she needed though was space, fighting inside buildings and dungeons was never where she was at her best.

Relucesco nodded when he heard the armored mares response. He'd assumed it was her, odd coincidences like that seemed to simply be the way of this city, and he'd stopped questioning it. He looked to Fireflare to answer her inquiry.

"This pony and I had an interesting meeting yesterday, and it seems fate has seen it fit to have us cross paths yet again. She thought me a threat to the city, and things got a bit heated, till your mate scolded the both of us into submission." With that he turned back to Rough Cut, to assuage her a bit.

"Following you? What reason could I have for that? Anyway, you should relax, pony. We're not enemies, so I've no reason to attack even if Miss Star would permit such an action . In fact it seems that we're here for similar reasons. I suppose it shouldn't surprise me, where else would you end up but the place that gives bits for slaying."

"Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy?"

Fireflare looked from the pony to the dragon. An idea popped into her head, an idea that made her grin like a maniac for all of half a second before she managed to control herself.

"Well, I think I can actually help both of you out. Excuse me." Lightly pushing the mare in the good-looking but not at all functional armor to the side, Fireflare walked up to the desk jockey and nodded. "Could you get me form JP slash P please? And also six guest passes to the gyms, that would help out a lot." She giggled a little too brightly as she received what she had asked for, handing out the guest passes and giving the paperwork to Wishing Star with a wink. "Right, before we do anything too bad, I'm going to take you all to the Arena. No, Moonshine," she added preemptively, "there are no monsters there. Just dolls and a team of unicorns animating them. But you will get to see Lucky here do some fighting, and I might join in after... after miss armor here gets finished. ONWARD!" She walked down the hallway dramatically.

The arena, as it turned out, had two levels. Or rather, one level and a really deep pit lined with lockers. Fireflare leaned over the rials and waved at a burly looking unicorn. "Hey! Brick Wall! Can you set up the Crowd?"

"Sure thing, miss."

"I keep telling you, it's Fireflare! And I'm married now, thank you very much."

"Sorry missus."

The pegasus rolled her eyes. "That stallion... anyway, welcome to the Arena, so called because it can handle almost anything. When Brick Wall gets up here he's going to cast a force field so whoever's down there stays down there. Jasper..." She looked around. "Well, Jasper's special talent is hiding well, but he's in here somewhere. He'll teleport the fighters in. Small white unicorn. Anywho, the point of this execise is simple."

She pointed to a red run-covered punching sack that Brick Wall had just shoved into place. "See that? There's a green sphere in that. You want to get it out by any means necessary. BUT!" She waved at the variety of green punching sacks now being put into place. "Those things are filled with blue cotton. You DON'T want blue cotton on the field. And I'm not telling you any of the other rules, Lucky, you go first. Don't start till Brick Wall blows the horn!"

Wishing Star rolled her eyes and started to fill out the forms in an even and well-rounded script. Her hornwriting had always been quite nice, even if what she actually wrote wasn't anything special. She lagged behind the rest of the group a bit as she did the paperwork, gritting her teeth as she did so. Fireflare knew she didn't like paperwork. That wink had been nothing but mockery.

Razza fragga dag nabbit mudderfuggin tease. She'd get hers.

Moonshine started to trot excitedly around his madre as she mentioned getting to see ponies fight monsters.

"Reawy, Madre? You gonna fight? Are ya gonna be like, pow, pow pow POW POW whoops-" said the diminutive unicorn, rearing on hs hind legs and mimicking a boxing action with his forehooves before taking an adorable tumble.

If there wasn't a dragon there and its vague ever present implication of force standing by, Rough Cut would never have followed the crazy pegasus mother. She'd have rolled her eyes, resumed arguing with the Desk Jockey until one of them got bored and gave up then she would have left, mood dependent on outcome. She wouldn't be standing in some dumb arena, waiting for some dumb horn heads to magic up some stuffed enemies. Also she'd be rather offended at the implication that her armor was less than fully functional. As it was, there was a dragon and in spite of its assurance to the contrary, she knew it could and would maul her if it suited him.

She wondered to herself as they wormed deeper into the building, How did that over excited spaz of a mare manage to become attached to that surely wretch of a unicorn anyway? When they finally happened upon the 'gym' as it were; the armored mare was breathing out great puffs of steamy breath, not from being tired far from it; the building away from the front door was legitimately warm and she was decked out for another 'day' out in whipping winds and arctic chill. As they arrived she sat down and started unbuckling and squeezing out of her armor.

The hardened steel plates, chainmail, leather straps and buckles, oh the buckles, finally came off in total after a minute or so of struggling and moving around. As she removed the last innermost layer the purple pony went from hot to cold in an instant, as it became very obvious that the warmth was relative and her moistened hide shed the excess body heat fast. Shivering slightly she set to the simple task of separated out her gear into two piles, the armor went into one while grey furred overcoat and dense woolen under armor went into another. If she was going to be subjected to some Pegasus's crazy training simulation she was going to be comfortable while she did it.

Without her armor to hide them, the scars were now visible for everypony to examine, some matched places on the armor that had obviously been repaired, while most matched nothing in particular. Physically it became obvious that her bulk was an always there thing, not just an 'I'm wearing big freakin' armor' thing. Though lean she had naturally wide proportions and heavy bones; the better to drag the heart of a mountain out to the light of day with. She gave a quick stretch and roll of each hip joint, before tossing her gear onto her back.

Not being the first Gym she'd ever visited, Rough Cut gathered the idea that there would be a locker room somewhere. With that in mind she walked off to try and find it, with the hope of finding towels or something. Of note however, her sword spent only brief moments off her and never left reach, even as she was at the hardest parts of getting out of the armor.

Relucesco nodded. This seemed to be a simple exercise to make sure he could kill something without murdering everyone around him. If they were real creatures, he could probably just instruct them, or scare them into giving hide a greater berth, but obviously that wouldn't work for dummies. He could try charging strait for it, which is what he really wanted to do, but obviously that could end with him being careless and goring a distraction dummy. Then perhaps he could just try breathing as much flame as he could. If he simply burnt up all the blue cotton then perhaps he could retrieve the sphere at his leisure. That plan sounded fun, but he doubted it was what Fireflare wished of him, not to mention he had no idea if the orb would even survive. He sighed. Master was always talking about how the calm mind conquered every challenge, so perhaps he could try doing things calmly.

When he heard the horn he attempted to simply proceed slowly and carefully to the objective. If no surprises awaited, he'd simply approach it calmly, then cut it to pieces. Calmly cut it to pieces of course.
